Neuroradiology Lecture Series for Department of Imaging Sciences, URMC.

  • Nuclear Medicine CNS Imaging Part I and Part II. Resident Conference 1/30/2012 11:45-12:30 am and 4/2/2012 11:45-12:30 am .
  • Topics: The lectures presented an introduction to imaging of the central nervous system with nuclear medicine radiotracers dedicated to the brain and spine. Multimodality correlation is made with CT and MRI, including hybrid imaging with FDG-PET/MR Fusion. Significant time was spent correlating the various common MRI sequences to radiotracer findings. The studies were presented with case presentation format using images from the University of Rochester Medical Center and University Imaging at Science Park. The senior residents were also asked to take unknown cases in a board review fashion, with discussion afterward.
  • Specific radiotracers and nuclear medicine studies reviewed include:
    • 18FDG-PET/CT of the spine and brain for primary CNS tumors and metastases;
    • 18FDG-PET Brain for evaluation of tumor recurrence, infarct/encephalomalacia, infection, interictal epilepsy/seizure focus, and dementia;
    • Novel brain imaging with 18F AV-45 for Alzheimer’s disease beta amyloid plaques and 123I-Ioflupane DaT SCAN imaging for dopamine transporters in Parkinson’s disease.
    • 99mTc Ceretec (exametazime, HMPAO) SPECT imaging of ictal and interictal phase epilepsy/seizure focus imaging.
    • 201-Thallium brain SPECT for imaging infection versus malignancy.
    • 99mTc DTPA dynamic, static and SPECT imaging:for cerebral blood flow (CBF) evaluation in brain death study;and for cisternogram studies in evaluating cerebral spinal fluid (CSF) flow in normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH) study and for CSF leak.

Neuroradiology Lecture Series for Department of Imaging Sciences, URMC.

  • Title: Pattern of Normal Myelination. Resident Conference on 11/21/11 at 12:30-1:15pm.
  • Topics: The patterns of normal pediatric myelination were presented and illustrated with pediatric magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) cases from the University of Rochester. The range of patient ages was from 0 months through 2 yrs 6 months. Patients were evaluated at single time points and as an individual progressing over time. Specific techniques of MR imaging in the neonatal age group were discussed, including T1 and T2 weighting protocols.
