Bone Densitometry (DEXA Scan)

Bone density testing is a procedure conducted to measure the density (mass) of your bones. Other names for this test include bone densitometry, DEXA scan and bone mineral density (BMD) test. It is often used to diagnose osteoporosis. If your bone mass is found to be very low, you and your physician can decide on appropriate treatment to prevent fractures before they occur. Bone density measurements also can help monitor the effects of osteoporosis treatment.

Radiology Associates of Ridgewood’s Bone Density services and providers are accredited by the International Society for Clinical Densitometry (ISCD).  This Accreditation is a testament to the quality bone density services our facility provides.

All women over 65 and men over 65 with low testosterone levels should be screened for osteoporosis. A DEXA exam is fast, inexpensive and requires no prior preparation. Clothing does not need to be removed. In advance of your exam, please let us know if you have had an MRI or CT scan within one (1) week of your scheduled appointment.
